Artistic approach

My work begins where raw matter meets gesture. I approach sculpture as a dialogue with weight, texture, and balance—an unfolding negotiation between intention and accident. Stone, metal, and reclaimed wood are not simply materials but collaborators that resist, fracture, and reveal their own hidden forms.

Through a language of contrasts—fragility beside mass, precision against erosion—I seek to create spaces where viewers feel both anchored and unsettled. Each piece asks the body to linger, to circle, to experience sculpture not as an object but as a presence that shifts with movement and perspective.

At the heart of my practice is a fascination with transformation: how materials that seem fixed and immutable can suggest fluidity, breath, and impermanence. My sculptures aim to remind us that even the most solid structures are always in the process of becoming.

Biography

Elena Morin is a Montréal-based sculptor whose work explores the tension between permanence and change. Born in 1991, she studied Fine Arts at Concordia University, where she discovered her passion for working with stone and metal. Her early training in traditional carving techniques evolved into an experimental practice that embraces industrial processes and found materials.

Her sculptures have been exhibited in group shows across Québec and Ontario, with her first solo exhibition, Echoes of Stone, presented in 2023 at a local artist-run center. In addition to her studio practice, Elena has participated in public art projects, creating large-scale installations that engage with urban and natural landscapes.

When not in the studio, she teaches sculpture workshops and collaborates with community art initiatives, sharing her belief that material exploration can be both a personal and collective act of discovery.
